Get Massage Clients With NutriSystem! (Not what you think…)

    Nutrisystem

NutriSystem taught me something today about massage therapists…

And I just had to share it with you.

    Here’s the scoop:

Last Tuesday, Kellie and I decided to go on NutriSystem for a few weeks to try and trim up a bit before our family vacation in mid-march to Club Med.

With about 12 pounds or so to lose (it’s that darn belly), I was really excited to start NutriSystem.

    So was Kellie.

But, once we were a day or two into the diet, she wasn’t really “feeling it”.

Personally, I think the food is pretty good.  A little small on the portions, but good nonetheless.

Kellie on the other hand hasn’t really been a big fan of the meals.

And once we tried the packaged salisbury steak, forget about it.  She was just minutes away from throwing in the towel on NutriSystem and going back to Jenny Craig.

What does this have to do with massage therapists, you may be wondering?

Nothing yet.  I’m getting to that.

You see, because Kellie previously used Jenny Craig to take off some pounds, and really enjoyed it and believed in it, when I convinced her to give NutriSystem a try she started off with preconceived ideas about how things should be structured, should taste, etc.

When NutriSystem didn’t met her preconceived ideas, she immediately felt it wasn’t for her.

But, since she committed to it, she stuck with it.

Well, this morning was our first official weigh- in.

    What happened?

    Let’s just say this…

When it was Kellie’s turn to step on the scale, she took one glance down at the pounds, and let out a loud, “I LOVE THIS NUTRISYSTEM!!!!”

    Why?

Because she lost 6 1/2 pounds since last Tuesday.

Not too shabby for one week of “dieting”.

I, on the other hand, only lost 3 1/2.  But, I’ll take it. :-)

    Here’s the thing:

A few days ago Kellie was almost ready to stop using NutriSystem because it “wasn’t what she was used to”.

She was ready to throw in the towel because it was “different”.

And, she was ready to go back to something she was used to, simply because it was “comfortable”.

Sadly, so many massage therapists do the very same thing with their marketing and other practice- building efforts.

They avoid doing certain things because they’re new, or because they’re different, or because they require the doctor to get out of their comfort zone.

Meanwhile, when it comes to building your practice it should never be about what you *feel* like doing.

As the owner of a massage business… as an entrepreneur (whether you see yourself as one or not)… building a thriving massage practice should always be about doing what works to bring in and keep clients.

It should never be about doing what you wish worked, or about what you’re most comfortable with.

    No!

    Not at all.

It’s about doing what works. Period.

You’ve got to be mature enough to maintain that mindset when it comes to building your practice.

It’s what the most successful massage therapists do.

They’re willing to continue using the marketing and practice-building strategies that work, regardless of whether they thought they would or not.

The most successful massage therapists recognize that building a lucrative practice is all about embracing the effective strategies they find, and putting their personal feelings, likes, and dislikes aside.

In Kellie’s case, now she’s ecstatic that I got her out of her comfort zone, and got her to try NutriSystem.

    Because she sees the results.

And, that’s when it hit me…

It’s really no different than how a lot of the practitioners who enrolled in MassageBusinessUniversity.com were feeling about what they were about discover with their membership.

Some were nervous the massage marketing and practice-building stuff the faculty was going to be sharing with them would be “different”, or “uncomfortable” to use, or they just didn’t believe it was going to work to bring them new clients, new referrals, etc.

But, they put their personal assumptions and feelings aside, spent the $9.97, and decided to put MBU to the test.

And, now they view building their massage practices in an entirely different light.

Just like Kellie now looks at NutriSystem in an entirely different light.

I guess it really all boils down to this…

Sometimes in order to achieve our most important goals, we’ve got get out of comfort zone and stop prejudging our options.

The solution we may be looking for, might just be in one of those options.

In your case, you’ve got to ask yourself, “Am I really looking for new ways to grow my massage practice, my income, and my lifestyle?”

“Or, am I just wishing that the things I thought would work to turn me into a success would just start working!”

I once heard a very successful, 35 year old mutli- millionaire entrepreneur say it like this…

“Some people say they want to *be* successful. Others say they want to *become* successful.  The difference between the two is about the willingness to do the things to get there.”
